Old school is the real school

Back in the day, people would make verbal contracts or vows, and they would keep their word. They ‘shook on it’, a man’s word was his word. That was back in the day. It was the age of integrity, the ‘era of gentlemen’, the time of principles, a time when brotherhood/ sisterhood actually meant something. Family was family. Men actually opened doors for women. They pursued women, women didn’t chase after men 😏. Music was real music, not just senseless vocals and loud instruments. Children actually respected their parents, couples made things work, they kept the family together. That was then, way back in time. Back then, if somebody said that they love you, they loved you. It was not about material wealth or fame or gain… It was pure, genuine, undiluted love. Daughters were safe with their fathers and uncles, even with neighbours… yeah, way back. I’m all for burying the past, but, some things are worth carrying to the next generation. Some things are worth resurrecting and practising… Things like integrity and principles.

“No matter how educated, talented, rich or cool you believe you are, how you treat people tells all. Integrity is everything.” Anonymous

Long back, someone very close to me taught me a lesson I have not forgotten till now. He said, “Be a person with principles. Let your ‘yes’ be ‘yes’ and your ‘no’ be ‘no’.” He told me that I should be a woman of my word. If I say “I’ll be there at 10 in the morning,” then I should be there at 10 in the morning. I should say what I mean and mean what I say. If I’m not sure, then I should not promise.

Chivalry is not dead… It’s all about you. Decide to be different. Let people call you old fashioned. Keep your integrity. Keep your principles. One day you shall reap. Check yourself, are you someone people around you can trust? When you tell someone close to you to lean on you, do they sigh with relief, because they know they are in good hands, or do they turn around and disregard your statement?

‘A person without integrity is a person that cannot be trusted.’

Peace out
